This morning the National Hurricane Center Upgraded Alex to a Category 1 Hurricane with max winds of 75 mph and gusts to 90 mph. Alex started out as scattered storms off the eastern coast of Florida a couple weeks ago and is now in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean. The storm is not expected to make landfall and is expected to follow a northerly path until it dissipates. This is a very rare occurrence as this is only the 4th time that there has been tropical system form in the month of January. Alex will be the first named storm of the 2016 Hurricane season, which doesn't technically start for another 4-5 months. Some slight strengthening is in the forecast for this system, but it will likely be torn apart in the coming days. We will not be posting any more updates on this system as it will not pose a threat to land.
